Decisions & Chocolate

My boyfriend came to see me again today! 🙂

And lookie at what he brought – could it be a package from my two favorite twins? Um yes!

Samples of Atrisana’s products including tahini, raw almond butter, cashew butter, pecan butter, coconut butter and a little thing called cacao bliss. Oh yeaa. I can’t wait to break into these bad boys.

Raw peppermint goji kremes. Little drops of heaven. No other words needed.

Included in the package was a raw chocolate face mask from Raw Gaia which makes totally raw organic skin care products. How cool is that?

They also sent me some samples of their raw crackers in two varieties including onion collard green and herb, and their flat breads including their onion free chard and purple kale chia. Thank you so much Michelle and Lori for the wonderful package.

He also brought me a letter which I have been waiting for!

I got accepted into Ohio University!

Now I just have to decide on whether or not im a bobcat or a fighting scott.

One of the things that has been really stressing me out lately is deciding on where I am going to go after I graduate from high school. After spending many months trying to decide what direction I wanted to go in my life I have finally figured it out. And now that I have I feel great. Nutrition. 🙂 It’s so simple and it’s been staring me right in the face for a long time now. I spend so much time reading and writing about nutrition, I make it a point to educate myself and stay up to date on the latest information released. I love cooking and being in the kitchen it brings me so much joy. Majoring in nutrition just makes sense to me.

But more importantly I want to help people and to change lives. By becoming a registered dietician I want to use food and excercise as preventive medicine for all of the horrible diseases that are plaguing us. I want to heal people from the inside without using things created in laboratories, pills, or surgeries. Just using good, wholesome food. I also want to use my nutrition degree to educate people about the health benefits of a vegan diet, and to help spread a positive message about veganism in general.

Here is the thing that I am trying to decide upon. On the one hand Wooster is an excellent private school that is my top choice. They have tons of vegan options and I know I will be well taken care of. But the bad thing is, is that they don’t have my major. Ohio University on the other hand has my major, but is farther away from home but doesn’t have a lot of great vegan options. I have contacted the school and the dining hall director is willing to meet with me… but still. One school is also more expensive than the other.

What would you do?

Would you attend your top choice school that doesn’t have your major, or attend an equally great school that does have your major but where you might not be as well taken care of.

I know that I don’t have to decide officially for a couple more months, but I would really like to figure out where I am going so I can just relax and enjoy the rest of my senior year. Which by the way is only 59 more days!

New treats coming tomorrow!

Michal ♥

Question of the day – When you have to make a big decision, how do you decide?

  1. First, I want to say that omg girl! You make being vegan sooo easy! lol the foods you post look so amazing, im willing to bet any dedicated meat eater reading your blog would be drooling too 🙂 Second – CONGRATULATIONS on being accepted that’s amazing (: I’m horrible at making decisions, for me it’s usually flip a coin or eenie meanie mini mo 🙂 part of the reason why I’m not going to college next year lol. But I know you’ll make the right decision (: don’t stress too much xD It’ll hit you like a ton of bricks one of these days XD

  2. WOW you are soo driven! i love it!! seriously! you make vegan look AWESOME and im not vega at all! congrats w. everythign girl-this is only the beginning of an amazing journey! God has everything already planned for you 🙂

  3. Hey girl, first off, I am in the process of emailing you back. I was replying this morning while at work, but had to save it because I got busy. I will try to finish it in the morning. I need to get reading for AP Lit. & Comp. tonight because tomorrow I am going to Indianapolis for a trip to WF’s and TJ’s, as well as the mall!

Second, great package! You are lucky! 🙂

Third, about the colleges…do what you think will be best for your interests and priorities. After you talk with OU’s dining hall, I am sure you will be more certain about a decision. However, if you are really wanting to major in nutrition, then I would assume that you would need to go to Ohio Uni. Wooster sounds so incredibly awesome, but if you are not going to be studying for your career field, then I don’t know if you will be receiving the full benefits.

As you know, I am going to Earlham. They don’t offer culinary arts, but I am really interested in it. I am also interested in yoga training. They have a class that you can take for credits, which it awesome! So, I will definitely be taking that. As fort the cooking classes, I guess I will just have to take those after I get out of Earlham. 😦 I will, however, strive to perfect my cooking while I am there. There are many great vegan people who love to have pot lucks and cook all of the time! So, I am sure I will be fine.

I want to do so much with my life, especially career related. I am torn between an English-as-a-second-language teacher, a vegan chef/restaurant owner, yoga instructor, service in the Peace Corps and other charity/volunteer service with less fortunate countries…
I want to do all of it! And, one day I want to work at Whole Foods. Haha! Somehow, some way I will figure all of this out. In the meantime, I am planning on majoring in Spanish and minoring in TESOL. I will see where that takes me. Maybe you should do the same…see where nutrition at Ohio Uni takes you. If you don’t feel it’s right, then maybe you could transfer to Wooster?

Just some thoughts and suggestions. Good luck! I know it’s a tough decision and can be very stressful. Let us know when you make your decision! And, if you want to talk more about it, you can always email me. I will get back to you asap. Until tomorrow morning (when I will be replying to your email),
    Katie 🙂

  4. Congrats!!!!!!

Wow– that is a big decision to make. I can’t wait to see the direction that your life leads you in the next six months. Just remember, wherever you decide to go, it’s not like you HAVE to stay there– if you decide you’ve made the wrong decision, you can always transfer.

  5. CONGRATS on the acceptance! It’s such an exciting year, right? I’m excited and nervous for college both @ the same time. All of my college choices are pretty far from home (I live in the middle of no where) , but I’m not sure where I’m going yet either.

I’m sure that you will do amazing at either of those colleges.

  6. whenever I have to decide big things, I hear my heart. don’t ask consequences, don’t analyze it rationally, but hear what your heart tells you. 🙂
love those artisana goodies… I really want to try them too!

  7. Congrats!!! If it were me, I’d go to the school with your major since that will impact you for the rest of your life. You might have to work harder to get your food, but you could also work with the school to get them to provide more vegan options.

  8. Congrats on the acceptance! As someone who stressed out way too much over choosing a college, don’t! They always say there’s that “perfect fit” school, but I think lots of schools can be perfect for each individual. They’ll all mold you into different people, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be any less happy! Honestly, it sounds like you’re really passionate about your major, so Ohio seems like a great (and economical) choice. If you’re worried about eats, I’d shoot Kailey from SnackFace an email and ask her what she thinks of the options offered there. I know she’s been both vegan and a vegetarian, so she’ll probably have some insight! Best of luck deciding!

  9. Congrats on your college acceptance. I say go with the one with your major. In my experience, most employers don’t care as much about where you attended compared to what you learned. They want you to have the education, but experience is really their top concern. Make sure you also take advantage of any internships in your field, as well.

  10. Hi!!

    Congrats on being accepted! Woohoo!
Personnally, I’ll go to the college that has my major, because I would never give up my dream because of food (bad memories as you may know)…but then I understand how veganisims is important for some, so do ‘what your heart tells you’

Lol, I’m sure you cringed when you read that xD

    xoxo

  11. I would really think about your reasons for loving your ‘top’ school – would you want to go there even if you can’t study what you’re actually interested in? What would you major in instead? Have you visited either of them? Spent the night? That’s really how I came to make the decision. I got a really good feel for the school and the kids who went there and really felt like I could find happiness there. Good luck!

  12. Can I have your Boyfriend?! Ha ha! You’re one lucky chick that’s going to be covered in goo! 😀

OMG, you’re in the exact same situation as Michael! He’s deciding between two schools too; one school where it doesn’t offer the exact major that he wants but there’s a vegetarian option and that’s where I’m going. And the other school is closer to home and it has all the newest stuff for his major and they actually offer what he wants to do, but they don’t have veg*n options (never heard them having any) and he’ll be really far from me. He’s having a really hard time deciding, so we’re going to go check out the school during Spring Break.

But I always tell him “Choose where you’ll be happy”. And I always tell him “Don’t make a choice that you’ll regret; you’ll gain stuff and lose stuff, but keep in mind that you should make a choice where what you gain is worth what you lose” 🙂

But really, it’s cool how you’ve decided your path! If i were you, I’d choose the one that I would have fun at and know I’m going to not regret anything that I lose. It’s your life, and it’s a toughy, but choose the school that makes you TRUELY happy from the inside.

Can’t wait for all those reviews up there! You HAVE to blog about how the face mask went!!!! Using chocolate like that? Voila-whabam! Totally want to try it! (if it’s good, of course;)

  13. congrats on the acceptance!!!!!!!!!! fabulous news!!!!! only you can make the decision where you need to go or should go; ponder it, meditate, dont rush it, and the answers will come to you 🙂

thanks for the linky love on the contest sweetie!!!

    xoxo

  14. Hey girl 🙂 I know I already congratulated you on your acceptance, but I wanted to do it again!!

Also, I wanted to make sure I told you about a great group of people here at OU who host a vegan cooking workshop. It’s a weekly meal ($3, all you can eat) and they do other things too – a Friday lunch on College Green in the spring, and a Thursday night guided meditation throughout the year.

If I were to relive my dorm experience I think I would opt out of a meal plan with the university and do my own grocery shopping instead. Explain to the chefs your high standards when it comes to nutrition and quality of ingredients and they’ll probably draw the conclusion that they cannot provide that for you. Definitely meet with/talk to dining services.

Will you have a car on campus? I know you’re not supposed to or whatever but one of my roommates doesn’t have a car and she rents out her parking space to a friend of mine. The spot is yours if you want it – that way you can do your own grocery shopping.

Some of the dorms have kitchens in them – check out Voight.

All is not lost at OU as a vegan!! I have taken some of the nutrition classes and I advise you opt for your major here at OU since you’re sure that’s what you want to do.

    Best,
    Morgan 🙂

  15. congrats on ohio university!! you should be a bobcat because they have your major and you can probably work with the food.

you can be a bobcat along with snackface!! if i was you, i would go for ohio university!!

  16. Congratulations! When I have to make a decision, I get in the car, blast my favorite tunes and try and sort it all out. Gather the information, then trust your instincts! Totally want those peppermint cremes!

  17. ohio university!! congatts.. i have so many friends that go there because i am from columbus ohio 🙂 I can’t give you an answer but if they don’t have your major at Wooster than that is probably kind of an issue, right? OU is a hUGE party school, so idk if you’d like that or not?? I would but I know not everyone is into it!! ahh such a hard decision 😦 sorry love
i usually write out pros & cons and i can tell which one i am leading towards by doing that.
    good luckhunnn

  18. Congrats on your acceptance!

I would attend the school that has my major – my sister is attending a school that has a non-accredited version of her major and it is just going to make finding a job harder for her in the long run. You know how to feed yourself, in case the dining hall is really awful. The director might be really cool though!

  19. Congratulations! If food is a big concern, you can usually use a little creativity to navigate the salad bar and jazz up plain pasta.

Good luck weighing those pros and cons!

  20. I think it is great that you want to pursue a career in nutrition. Since that was my degree, I feel that it is a wonderful career choice.
That is a tough decision though. I would say that you should go with the school that offers your major…just so you end up doing what you really love.
    Good luck!

  21. Congrats congrats congrats!!!! It’s such a great feeling to be accepted. 😀 You will finds food at Ohio. They have to have different options, if nothing else for food allergies. You can always “cook” in your room. If it were me, I would pick the school with my major- this application process was stressful enough, I don’t want to do it all again in 2 years!
But you know what’s best for you and wherever you end up you’ll be happy. 🙂

  22. Hey lady,
I dont know much about the US system, but i am also studying nutrition: Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition & Dietetics) at CSU in Aust. That being said, have you considered exchange?
You could do the general subjects you need (i’m guessing chemistry, microbiology, anatomy) in first year and then do some here (or anywhere else) and then see how you feel for the rest, as long as you get credited for the subjects you do it wont take any longer 😀
